With aging, the upper and lower eyelids may develop skin laxity, wrinkles, and protruding fat pads. These changes can create a tired or aged appearance. In some patients, excessive upper eyelid drooping may even restrict the visual field.

Blepharoplasty aims to restore a fresher and more rested appearance while preserving natural facial expression.

About the Surgeon

Eyelid surgery at Anka is performed by Assoc. Prof. Gamze Bektaş, MD, an EBOPRAS-certified plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgeon based in Istanbul, Turkey.

With extensive experience in facial aesthetic and reconstructive surgery, her approach emphasizes anatomical precision, conservative tissue removal, and preservation of natural eyelid function. Each surgical plan is tailored according to skin quality, fat distribution, and individual facial structure.

Upper Eyelid Surgery

In upper blepharoplasty:

• The incision is placed within the natural eyelid crease
• Excess skin is removed conservatively
• Herniated fat pads, particularly in the medial area, are addressed when necessary

This procedure is most commonly performed under local anesthesia.

Scars are typically well concealed within the natural crease of the eyelid.

Lower Eyelid Surgery

Lower blepharoplasty can be performed using:

• A subciliary incision just below the eyelashes
• A transconjunctival approach through the inner eyelid in younger patients without excess skin

In selected cases, fat repositioning or fat grafting may be used to support the lower eyelid and improve contour.

Lower eyelid surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia.

Recovery and Postoperative Care

Patients are typically discharged on the same day.

Mild swelling and bruising are expected and usually improve significantly within the first week.

Protection from sun exposure during healing is important to optimize scar maturation.

Over time, scars fade and become barely noticeable, resulting in a natural and refreshed appearance rather than an “operated” look.
