Breast Reduction (Reduction Mammoplasty) in Turkey
Breast Reduction (Reduction Mammoplasty)
Breast reduction surgery may be performed for both medical and aesthetic reasons.Excessively large breasts can cause chronic neck, shoulder, and back pain, postural strain, skin irritation beneath the breasts, and limitations in physical activity. Many patients also report difficulty with clothing and psychological discomfort related to breast size.
Reduction mammoplasty aims to reduce breast volume while restoring proportion, balance, and physical comfort.
About the Surgeon
Breast reduction surgery at Anka is performed by Assoc. Prof. Anı Çinpolat, MD, an EBOPRAS-certified plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgeon based in Istanbul, Turkey.
With a background in advanced reconstructive microsurgery and participation in Turkey’s first face, arm, and uterus transplantations, her approach combines surgical precision with anatomical planning. The focus is not only on reducing size, but on restoring long-term balance, comfort, and natural breast contour.
Each procedure is individually planned following detailed clinical evaluation.
Surgical Technique
During breast reduction surgery:
• Excess breast tissue and skin are removed
• The breast is reshaped to achieve proportional volume
• The nipple–areola complex is repositioned to a natural anatomical level
• Blood supply is carefully preserved whenever possible
The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and typically lasts 2.5–3 hours.
Depending on the degree of reduction required, incision patterns may include:
• Periareolar incision
• Vertical (lollipop) pattern
• Inverted T (anchor) pattern
Scars are more visible during the first months and gradually soften and fade over time.
Hospital Stay & Recovery
Most patients stay in the hospital for one night.
Temporary surgical drains are typically removed within 2–3 days.
A supportive surgical bra is recommended for approximately six weeks.
Daily non-strenuous activities can usually be resumed within one week, while heavy lifting and intense exercise should be avoided for six weeks.
Risks and Long-Term Considerations
As with any surgical procedure, potential risks include bleeding, infection, and wound-healing complications.
Temporary changes in nipple sensation may occur and are usually reversible. Permanent changes are rare. In very uncommon cases, depending on underlying health conditions and surgical technique, partial or complete loss of the nipple–areola complex may occur.
Many women are able to breastfeed after reduction surgery, depending on the technique used.
Postoperative firmness may develop due to scar tissue or fat necrosis and can occasionally mimic breast lumps. Regular follow-up examinations are recommended.
Although breast reduction may decrease overall breast tissue volume, routine breast cancer screening should continue as recommended.
