Breast Lift Surgery ( Mastopexy)
Breast sagging may occur due to aging-related loosening of supportive ligaments, pregnancy, breastfeeding, or significant weight gain and loss. This condition can affect breast shape and firmness regardless of breast volume.
During a breast lift surgery, the breast tissue is reshaped and excess, sagging skin and tissue are removed to restore a firmer, more lifted, and youthful appearance. In selected cases, a breast implant can be placed during the same procedure to achieve both lifting and volume enhancement.
In cases of mild breast sagging, correction can be achieved through an incision made only around the nipple (periareolar incision). In more advanced degrees of sagging, surgery is planned using a combination of incisions around the nipple and along the breast crease, including the inverted T (anchor) incision. Surgical scars gradually fade over time and, in most patients, become significantly less noticeable within approximately one year.
Breast lift surgery planned after breastfeeding should be performed at least one year after breastfeeding has ended. Surgical drains may be placed temporarily to prevent fluid accumulation and are usually removed within a few days.
Most patients are able to return to their daily activities approximately one week after surgery. Wearing a supportive shaping bra for about six weeks is recommended, and heavy physical activities should be avoided during this period.
When performed with proper technique and appropriate patient selection, breast lift surgery provides high patient satisfaction. However, future factors such as pregnancy, breastfeeding, or significant weight changes may lead to recurrent sagging over time.
