Dermapen (Microneedling Treatment)

Dermapen (Microneedling Treatment)

Dermapen is a controlled microneedling treatment designed to stimulate the skin’s natural regeneration process.By creating precise micro-injuries at adjustable depths (approximately 0.5–2 mm), the treatment activates collagen and elastin production, supporting skin renewal and structural improvement.

The device uses sterile, single-use micro-needle cartridges that move vertically in and out of the skin, creating uniform microchannels while minimizing unnecessary trauma.

About the Surgeons

Assoc. Prof. Gamze Bektaş, MD and Assoc. Prof. Anı Çinpolat, MD are EBOPRAS-certified plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgeons based in Istanbul, Turkey. Both hold a master’s degree in stem cell and tissue engineering.

Mechanism of Action

The controlled microchannels created during treatment:

• Stimulate natural collagen synthesis
• Enhance skin regeneration
• Improve absorption of applied therapeutic agents
• Support gradual tightening and texture refinement

These microchannels also allow for more effective delivery of selected serums or regenerative solutions into deeper skin layers.

Indications

Dermapen may be used to:

• Improve skin brightness and vitality
• Refine uneven skin texture
• Reduce mild pigmentation irregularities
• Improve the appearance of acne scars
• Support early skin laxity

It is a regenerative treatment focused on improving skin quality rather than creating artificial volume.

Procedure and Recovery

Treatment is performed in an office setting.

• Downtime is minimal
• Mild redness may occur temporarily
• Most patients return to daily activities shortly after

For optimal and longer-lasting results, a protocol of approximately three sessions spaced 2–4 weeks apart is generally recommended, depending on skin condition.

Clinical Precision vs. Home Devices

The Dermapen system used in our clinic differs significantly from home roller devices.

Advantages include:

• Adjustable depth control
• Vertical needle penetration (reduced lateral skin trauma)
• Sterile, single-use needle cartridges
• More uniform and predictable treatment

These features allow for safer and more controlled clinical outcomes compared to at-home devices.

Combination Treatments

Dermapen may be combined with:

• PRP
• Mesotherapy
• Selected regenerative therapies

Such combinations can enhance collagen stimulation and overall skin quality when clinically indicated.
